Best. Sushi. Ever! Seriously, I have eaten a lot of sushi in my life, granted I've never been to Asia but that's beside my point. This is the best sushi I have ever eaten. I went in with my daughter and we sat at the sushi bar and got three rolls to share and we were in complete food-coma heaven. After the first piece we both looked at each other wide eyed. Anyway, right now we have a Japanese exchange student staying with us and we took her with us to try this place and she said there miso soup was really tasty. She doesn't love American style sushi, but the rice and noodles were good enough for her. We also had mochi balls (it is a dessert like an ice cream ball that is wrapped or dipped in a gummy bear type texture). Their hibachi is as good as any other I have tried, but their sushi really shines! Give it a try.

We were in St George for 3 nights and ate here two of the nights since it was so good! The first night we sat in the dining area to order sushi. Prices are very reasonable and the sushi is definitely some of the better sushi I have had which seems surprising since who would expect that in St George? The service was spot on as well so we decided to go back for the hibachi, which turned out to be delicious as well. We arrived around 4:45 for dinner and were seated with our own hibachi chef so we got a personalized "show" which was fun. They definitely could have made us wait another 10 minutes to seat another couple with us but we each got our own chefs which speaks to their great customer service. The filet was cooked to perfection and was so juicy and seemed to melt away in my mouth. Definitely one of the better hibachi grills I have been to!

Best sushi in st George area... hands down. It may just be a 4 star in a bigger metro area, but for SG its top notch. Big rolls, fresh fish, awesome recipes. Family friendly. High end rolls priced at about 12-13 bucks which is a great deal. The riverside roll was awesome but they should've left more jalapeño seeds to give some kick. The hibachi side was packed. Our friends said it was entertaining and food was just good not great. Three stars for hibachi.

Not sure how related this is to Sakura in Salt Lake or Ogden or even how those two relate, if at all, to each other, but this place is evidently relatively new to the city. Inside is gorgeous, actually it starts outside with a very ornate dragon door handle set-up. Very nice. Doors are heavy as Hell, though. Inside, we have fish, a very nice hibachi area, a nicely set up dining room and an entire sushi bar area. Best part: girls wandering around in traditional kimonos. Yowsa! Staff here is very friendly and wants to see you get done right, so no worries there. All of that, though, sadly, is for nothing if the water don't flow, right and sad to say, but this place needs some substantial improvement. First things first: place, you all serving too much food. That's right, I said it, but it's true. For $9, you can't give out 1 clamshell, 4 mini clamshells and a goodly bowl of soup. For one thing, the Styrofoam bill must be astronomical (including all those little mini cups and lids for sauces - look troop, you're either breaking even or losing money on those lunches and I want to see you stick around - smarten up). For another, ain't nobody want to be throwing away all those damn clamshells and hoggin' up all the trash space. So, go with a core of the dish, the rice, the sushi and give them their choice of soup OR salad OR potstickers and keep the price the same. Don't throw the whole damn works in like you're doing now cause very few people will be able to finish it all anyway. Too much food is one thing, but unfortunately, what they're serving isn't so great. Rice is done well. Salad is acceptable. I don't eat miso soup or potstickers, so no idea there. The shrimp dish did better than the other meats and was the only thing that I would call actually good. Sushi was also acceptable, if slightly mediocre in spots. The interior is really well set up for fine dining. All that's left is now for the food to live up to it. It might be better to dine in and skip the lunch specials, but I believe they are just somewhat lightened versions of the main dishes. They do have a very nice hibachi area, though, so maybe they do that better. In any case, still some kinks here and there, but I think we should start seeing something really special from these guys in the next 6 months or so...I hope so.

Here's the thing: I am picky about sushi because I live in LA. I'm sure for St. George, this place is the best. I do have to say that the fish here for the sashimi was really fresh. Here are my gripes: the fish was cut way too thick for sashimi. The fish was fresh but it was weird biting into a piece of fish that was just too thick around. It made it way less enjoyable to eat. Especiaily the tuna. It was like biting into a piece of jerky. When I asked for a bowl of rice, they served Chinese long grain rice, not Japanese short grain rice. It was fine. Edible. But not ideal. The sushi rolls were good. I was so craving Asian food on my long road trip but I don't know if I'd come back here again. I'd probably just wait it out until I got back to LA.

It was back to Sakura for dinner preceding the viewing of another Tuacahn Amphitheatre production, and once again my party and I enjoyed a five-star dining experience. After passing by two well-stocked aquariums and being led by a geisha-clad hostess to our reserved seats at a nicely polished and clean teppanyaki grill, first out for me was a big, fresh, and colorful Rainbow Roll, along with a Spicy Yellowtail Roll. The delicious sushi was followed by a good bowl of Onion Soup with noodles and onion strands, and a good refreshing House Salad with tomato, lettuce, cucumber, and a house-made Thousand Island-like Dressing. Some shrimp were tossed near or into diners' mouths by our grillmaster, who gave a lively performance accompanied by attention-getting commentary, besides seasoning and cooking all food superbly to order. Fried Rice with egg and assorted grilled vegetables were well executed; and for a combination entree good-sized shrimps were sweet tasting, and cut up morsels of Filet Mignon were truly medium rare as requested. Cold and fine Chocolate Mochi Ice Cream and warm Tempura Bananas topped off a great teppanyaki dining experience that was excellent as always! Note: The place was packed. Reservations are highly advisable.

We were staying at the Inn at Entrada in Saint George, Utah due to my wife's job for medical software sales. The location on the golf course with amazing sunsets will be highlighted in another review shortly. I was tasked with finding us a great restaurant for dinner after her long work day of meetings at the Dixie Regional Medical Center. Perusing Yelp, Sakura was the highest rated place for sushi and restaurant's overall so it was easy to talk my health conscientus partner into sushi for dinner. Also, she could have teppanyaki if she felt like changing her mind. We feasted, in fact, I ordered too much sushi and had to cancel the crunchy eel roll at the last minute. The meal began with miso and a house salad with their house made ginger dressing. We enjoyed the meal immensely. If you find yourself in St. George, Utah, stay at the Inn at Entrada, take a hike within Snow Canyon State Park and have a great dinner or lunch at Sakura!

We came in at 9:00 PM on a Friday for sushi and were seated right away. The restaurant is very clean. There are two big TVs in the sushi dining area showing sports. We got 4 rolls for the two of us. The less expensive ones were the spider roll and the shrimp tempura roll. We thought they'd be the same size as the others just not as amazing but they are mostly less money because they are smaller. Kinda a bummer because they were small. Then we got a Vegas roll and the Yum Yum roll. Both were good with the Yum Yum being the best. The check was $40. It was good but not amazing. Probably would return but only to try different bigger rolls.

I eat here every time I come to St George. Being the creature of habit that I am, I always go at the same time--lunch--and I always get the same thing--hibachi steak with fried rice and the Vegas roll. Lunch is a great time to go because the food is almost half the dinner prices and the portions seem the same to me. Your hibachi chefs are usually better at dinner (in my experience) but otherwise lunch is the time to go. I can't vouch for many other things on the menu, but the hibachi steak and fried rice (make sure to ask for garlic on it) are the best! The miso soup and the salad that come with it are both excellent (I could drink the dressing for that salad by the gallon) Go to this place. Do it. Now. 3, 2, 1, now.

Food: - Potstickers: 8 pieces, pan-fried pork and vegetable dumpling. Good flavor. Other restaurants usually serve 6 pieces, so it's pretty awesome to get 8 :) 4/5 - Hibachi teriyaki chicken and scallop combo: Our chef, Johnny K, was friendly and talkative. He did the usual tricks with the spatula and onion volcano. The dish came with plentiful of stir-fried veggies. The chicken was a little more dry than I would like. The scallops were tender and flavorful. The lunch came with salad and miso soup. Both were okay. The only thing I didn't like was Hibachi usually comes with fried rice. If you wanted fried rice here, you would have to pay extra. 3/5 Service: Fast and friendly. 4/5 Final thoughts: I will definitely come here again! They have a huge selection of food. And everything was so cheap! $4.95 for 8 pieces of potstickers and $12.95 for combo Hibachi for lunch!? That's just unbeatable!

Went here for lunch and again for dinner due to staying nearby. For lunch I had the duck noodle, more like yuk noodle. Didn't seem to be much effort put into the meal and just tasted like soy noodles....was pretty disappointed. My girlfriend ordered a bento which was huge and just ok. Came back for dinner (yes I know) but was craving some sushi...the sushi here was really good. DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING ELSE. The rainbow roll and lobster roll was amazing and was up there with some of the tastiest sushi I've eaten. How they get the fish all the way to the shithole that is st george utah and still taste that good keeps me up at night.

Sakura has the best sushi in St. George and surrounding area. They have a fun, friendly environment with excellent service. For busy weekend night, I recommend calling ahead. They are popular! Bring a large group and try out their hibachi. Kids love watching the chefs at work. It's great food with awesome entertainment. Not bad for Japanese food in Utah! When I think of Utah, I don't automatically get excited about eating like I do in Vegas. I have however, been surprised on numerous occasions, this being one of them. It's late and we were headed to Brian Head and of course hungry! After reading the reviews and the husband chiming in that he would love some sake, we decided on Sakura. We were greeted and seated immediately. We opted for tepenyaki and our chef was fun and did a great job. Heath was our server and he didn't disappoint as we always had full beverages. The rice was bland but the meat and shrimp were good. All in all, when looking for something decent to eat along the way, this works just fine.

Sushi was not good. I've had better and it had hair in it. Aside from that, i guess it could be worse with hair in it. The rice was not fresh at all. I give this place 2 stars because of the waitress, she was very helpful. If not for her I'd only give 1 star. I expected better from the raving reviews. Too bad.

Tried to eat here on a Friday night and it was packed (on our way to Brian head)....tried again on Saturday night....called to make a reservation and they said they don't take reservations Friday or Saturday....I would think it would be the opposite, you'd want to take reservations on your busiest nights. We opted for table service since it would be faster....why on earth was there a wait for a room that had 6 empty tables. If you know your busy on those nights then staff it. Ordered hibachi items, and ordered a side of fried rice. They never gave the original order of rice and the fried rice had absolutely no flavor. The food came out very cold. I had scallops and it made my stomach hurt so unbelievably bad. Waitress was not friendly. I don't know why this place had so many stars, obviously it's the only place around here to eat?

Delicious! Food was great, the chef was entertaining, and the wait staff was attentive without being annoying. I ate the hibachi steak and chicken combo and my husband had the salmon. All delicious and cooked to desired "done-ness." I think the steak was my favorite. Husband thinks the chicken was dry, but I thought it was great. Desserts sound intriguing, but I was too full to try any!

When I first saw Sakura's billboard on the freeway, I immediately wrote them off as another overpriced tourist trap with lackluster food. I was wrong. Stayed at a hotel nearby and stopped in for a light dinner after reading so many positive reviews. What started as a light dinner ended up as a heavy one because the food was so good we kept ordering. Service was stellar and attentive throughout our visit, even going into their busy dinner rush. Sat at the sushi bar. Started with the salmon sashimi, which was thick-cut and fatty and delicious. The calimari roll was a surprise hit (and well priced at $8.50), but the star was the Spicy Yellowtail roll, which packed a punch of flavor with simple ingredients and phenomenally fresh fish, also for a low-low $7.50. The spicy white tuna roll simply wasn't as good (same for spicy scallop roll). Also tried the St. George roll, which was decent but did not shine like some of the others did, and was one of their pricier rolls. I'm not a hibachi fan, but their menu sounds great and based on their stellar sushi I'd come back to try some items from that menu... but I'll likely end up sticking to the fish!

This place is amazing. Hands down. I wish there was one in southern California! I have never had a "love boat" before...boy was it sure a love boat! My boyfriend and I were super excited when our meal came out. It was plenty of sushi and sashimi for both of us! And at $52! The price was practically a steal! Their fish was super fresh, their rolls were perfect, and the atmosphere friendly and calm. I highly recommend everyone to try this place. The service was phenomenal too! I didn't have their hibachi but their sushi was amazing. I'll definitely have to try their hibachi next time.

Went for dinner and had some sushi just before the chef cooked for us at the grill. The chef was very skilled and flipped the spatula and shrimp with ease. The sushi we had was spectacular and the filet I had for dinner was cooked perfectly. I opted for noodles instead of rice and it was well worth the extra buck or two. Next time im in St. George I would like to come back.

My father, brothers, and I were here for the night and found this place on yelp. We've been to many sushi restaurants all around, and this place had great variety and the sushi was excellent. Since they don't take reservations, we waited 20 min to be seated on a Saturday night. Not too bad. Service was excellent. And staff was very courteous. Order the Hiro: not on the menu. But excellent roll.

I have eaten here twice, once I visited for lunch with my mother. The amount of delicious food we each received for 7-8.99 prompted me to revisit for dinner with my wife and our friends. Our server was awesome, he even initiated a sake bomb round for our table. The Hibachi chef was talented and entertaining, the food was fresh, cooked well, and delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a great lunch, or an entertaining dinner.

My visit here was unplanned but the restaurant to which I was going is not open for dinner on Mondays or Tuesdays. Sakura was a quick change of plan for my evening in St. George. I didn't want to do hibachi. For me that's a once every 5 years or so if that often. I sat on the sushi side of the restaurant and I ordered a dinner--not sushi. I got the Geisha Special which consisted of filet mignon, shrimp, chicken, and seasonal vegetables. It came with a bowl of miso and a salad and some rice. The miso was a little lacking in flavor and needed to be hotter. The salad was good but the house dressing was a bit sweet. Before I finished the salad, my server brought the main course, picked up the empty miso bowl and picked up the not empty salad bowl and asked, "You're done with this?" almost suggesting that I should be finished. I let her take the bowl but I wish they'd do a little better planning on appetizers and main courses. Or just don't put the customer in the position of having to say, "No, I'm not finished. Put the damn bowl down!" The filet was excellent. I asked for it rare and it was. The shrimp was good but the chicken was almost tasteless. She brought to dishes with sauces, one for vegetables and seafood, the other sauce for meat. That was the only was the chicken had some flavor. Dip it in the sauce and it tasted like something. Service was quick as you can tell from my description and the server was very pleasant. I don't think I'll be coming back.

AMAZING!!!!!! This place was SO good!!!! the place is so pretty inside and the entire staff was super friendly! we split 2 rolls... the Mexican roll and the Hiro roll... they were both HUGE and very SPICY which is what we wanted! we also each had a sake sampler which was nice because it introduced us to sake that we normally wouldnt order on our own. great little place.... too bad its 2 hours from my house!

I have been to hibachi grills before and they were just ok, but the food here was really great tonight. I had steak and shrimp and it was delish. Hubs had the same thing and he liked his as well. I'm a huge hibachi fan and have been to many places. I decided to give this place a try while visiting. The decor was great and it was crowded so very popular spot to go. However the food wasn't impressive. I had the scallops and shrimp hibachi and the meat and veggies I got were bland. No seasoning. Just more butter and some garlic really would have gone a long way. My scallops could also used some more attention especially. The chef we had was fantastic, one of the most entertaining I've ever had but it didn't make up for the fact that my dinner was subpar.

Was in town for a funeral, and this was my first time at a place like this that does the cooking right there at the table. The food was amazing, the steak was cooked to perfection. I love it! The staff was so funny and so friendly. I will be back!

I have to admit visiting from OC, CA, I was a little concerned about what sushi would be like in St. George, Utah. We've been very pleasantly surprised. We started with a Riverside roll and the tradiional California roll. Both were fresh and delicious. We had shrimp tempura appetizer and chicken teriyaki dinner, both quite good. Service was also very good. Overall highly recommend it if you're in the mood for Japanese food.

This is not a place to get sushi that's for sure. Very sloppy presentation and the fish is old. Saw a sushi chef pick up a receipt that fell between the cracks at the counter the. Go back to using knife without cleaning it. I wouldn't go back it recommended it.

My favorite place for Sushi! Friendly service. I've sat at the hibachi once but I mostly go here for sushi and dining area usually has a shorter wait time. Like most places in St. George, weekends and holidays are too busy but any other time is great! I haven't tried a roll I don't like yet. Much rather go here than benjas.

Place is clean, staff is super nice, sushi is delicious. Get the the geisha roll. Portions are decent. The hibachi shrimp was a little over cooked, I don't really care for the big calamari pieces(I like the small crunchy pieces), but the filet mignon was so tender and delicious. My 5 year old son loved the complimentary soup, geisha sushi roll, and shrimp tempura. He especially loved how the chef put on his little show and how he launched shrimp across the table and into his mouth. Lol

This place was amazing. Large sushi and roll selection, great drink list (full bar), delicious food and friendly service. We were seated quickly, food arrived fast, and the price was right. There is also an option for hibachi style dining that we did not choose. We will definitely be back for that experience next time we're in town!!

I have passed by Sakura for many years. Being from the San Juan Islands in Washington's Salish Sea, I assumed that good sushi was an oxymoron in St. George. But after reading some other Yelpers, I decided to give it a try and I was more than pleasantly surprised! It was excellent. I had the Chirashi bowl, which was so large it was actually a plate. It was stacked with seven varieties of fish, vegetables, and rice. The fish tasted fresh, and masterfully presented. I sat at the sushi bar and watched three very skilled chefs give Jiro a run for his money. A large miso soup and salad were served before my main course, and a large hot house sake washed it all down, (though I requested this as it was not on the menu). As Schwarzenegger says, "I'll be back".

So delicious! I'm a sushi fan and love Asian food. Along with Benjas, this is best Asian food in town. I recommend their Hibachi Teriyaki Chicken or Crab. Also, this place was great for our kids. They loved the Hibachi show. Sometimes my work does dinners here and they always accommodate and sometimes give some extra side like a sorbet or something. Highly recommend. It's more high end, so be ready for that, but it's worth it.

Amazing! ! The prices are great and the food is spectacular. It is more garlic than sweet compared to most Japanese steakhouses. The sushi is amazing! Unagi is amazing and their eel sauce is amazing! ! The service is wonderful. The chef could have been a little more interactive but he had his moments. My husband said it is the best fried rice he had ever had.

I don't know what we where expecting given it's the middle of the desert, but we where tired of Mexican food, didn't feel like heavy American style cooking or fast food, so we thought we'd try for some Japanese after reading some good reviews on Yelp. The building itself looked promising inside. We decided to order the Tuna Tataki and sushi/sashimi platter + a small sake and large Kirin beer. To be honest the food was probably the worst Japanese we've ever had - I've literally had much better at food-court sushi trains. At approx. $80 we felt pretty ripped off as well. The sashimi was of very low quality, and sliced way too thick with virtually no taste. There was a faint unusual smell too. Obviously fish has to be shipped in to St.George, Utah, but a lot of sashimi/sushi quality fish around the globe originates at Tsukiji, Japan a.k.a. a few extras hours from the coast shouldn't really make a difference. It's just cheap ingredients, period. I don't know how the rest of the food is - I imagine it's decent given the crowd on a Sunday night. We wouldn't go back anytime soon.

we were pleasantly surprised by this place, yay! everyone was really friendly and attentive. our cook was very entertaining and engaged, even if he did hit my glasses with a piece of buttery shrimp. this place is very reasonably priced and gives you great portions. we had the chicken teriyaki and the steak. also, their soup is AMAZING and so is the salad that they give you before dinner. so go hungry. love it. would totally go again.

Not the best Japanese I've had, by far. Not terrible, but after the waiter got my order wrong and I was finally able to eat, it turned out that I make a much better Yakiri Udon than this place does. The cook put waaaaay too much toasted sesame seed oil in. The waiter gave me chicken when I said shrimp. He was apologetic, but I think the cook was ticked because it was a very sloppy dish that came out. My husband ordered a steak and chicken combo. A very small amount of both given with tough mushrooms (how is a mushroom tough anyway?) and two sauces on the side. Fairly expensive for the very small plate. We won't be running back here. Southern Utah is not the place to find decent Japanese food.

My family and I love Sakura. Having lived in Las Vegas where you can find great sushi and Japanese food, Sakura holds its own. It is our go to spot for birthdays and all special occasions. Next time you are there, make sure to order the Mexican sushi roll and the Las Vegas roll. You will not regret it!

We ate at Sakura last night when we got into town. We were not impressed with Sakura. We traditionally eat at Benihanas at home, but were here for a visit. We went with the cooking in front of us. The cooking experience happened a lot faster than we are used to, but our cook was still very entertaining. He told jokes, and kept the cooking going. We were surprised with how quickly he was done cooking though. He seemed to almost rush through the cooking, and there wasn't as much of a show as we are used to. The food was okay, but we are not a fan of our food being coated in sauce. All meat was drenched in a soy sauce before it was served, along with the vegetables. The food tasted okay, but we would not return to this restaurant.

Wow I was very impressed to find great sushi in Saint George UT I was very skeptical at first and when I tried it , it was way better than what I had in the Bay Area. The fish was very fresh,the sushi had little rice and more fish. The give Great and excellent service . Jane and Echo were both nice ,kind. The restaurant was packed in Wednesday evening and we waited to be seated for about 20 min. Great atmosphere ,very clean and highly recommended I can say I found my sushi place at this town.

Love the fresh sushi and sashimi and they have brown rice for those who prefer over white. The steak and scallops were very good! The food was pretty tasty all around. The only negative is that I ordered a Sushi Roll, and it came out to me after I had finished dinner... They seemed a little unorganized and had a hard time keeping up with everyone. I would recommend to go on a week night when it is a little quieter. Not a bad spot though.

I love Sushi! I have had sushi at many different places. Probably 50 or so. This place was the worst. Tasted ok, but the price and size and presentation of the one roll I got, outweighed the good taste overwhelmingly. Extremely overpriced for what you get. I initially ordered 2 rolls but cancelled the 2nd one when I got the 1st one. I ordered the Vegas Roll and it was delivered flat and very small. I was so turned off that I cancelled the other roll expecting it to be the same. Why is it that sushi bars owned and run by Koreans always deliver high quality and high quantity, but every time, without fail, if I visit a sushi place owned and run by Chinese, the sushi is too small and way overpriced. Depressing visit. I was really hoping to spend $30 to $40 in sushi and left depressed and $12 in the hole for one lousy Vegas Roll. You can count on me NEVER eating here again.

This was a tough one - for Sushi I'm very tempted to leave 5 stars...for the Hibachi stuff I would say 3.5-4. So, I met in the middle. So, I would probably not recommend the Hibachi (I'm not a huge fan of that anyway, so don't not get it just because of me). However, there is some Sushi that I think is absolutely amazing. Part of me doesn't want to announce this to the world, but if you go you need to try the Hula roll. This is something that is off-menu, and is flat out amazing. It's a sushi roll with: -rice wrap instead of seaweed (great for those trying Sushi for the first time) -crab -tuna -avocado -mango -mango sauce Simply put, if you go to get sushi and don't try this, then you are missing out!

Was excellent. We started with a tuna roll. It was stuffed with tuna. I had a shrimp and filet dinner that was cooked perfectly and so tender. It came with sauté veggies that were perfect. My husband had the shrimp and mango dinner which he said was wonderful.

For the options we have to choose from in St. George, Sakura is one of your best bets to get japanese food. Pretty typical dishes- teriyaki, etc. The noodles are my favorite thing to order- also the mochi is actually pretty dang good. (Their Hibachi chefs are funny and talented)

Delightfully surprised on how good this was considering where it's located. We were on town for just one night after spending the day at Zion. Our nephew went to college at Dixie and he gave us some dinner place suggestions. We went to the dining room as the hibachi was ALL teriyaki. A no go for me. I had a basil lamb chop dish that wS quite nicely flavored and the steamed.Brown rice rice was nicely flavored. My husband had duck curry that was wonderfully flavored and just the right level of heat to be calling for a Japanese beer to cool off with. We also had a starter that was a special. A twist on stuffed jalapeño popper as it was 2 large hollowed out peppers stuffed with spicy tuna along with the cream cheese with a panko coating for the deep fry. Had a drizzle of eel sauce and was served over a bed of shredded radish. My husband does not like poppers like I do, but this version won his thumbs up.

Nice place. Our server was great. She did a great job keeping our glasses full and everything pre-bussed. Our cook was thoughtful we has 3 children with us and he made sure he warned us before "big fire" so we could prepare our kids. He was also able to fling shrimp into my 2 year olds mouth!

We had the hibachi grill for dinner. The price is reasonable and food was great. We didn't like the fried rice because all the chef put in was a little egg and a lot of soy sauce. The chef was entertaining. Since we were never been here before we didn't know that the chef like to flip shrimp into your mouth. First customer didn't want it and wasn't ready but the chef flip it to her anyways. The shrimp hit her on top of her forehead and it fell between her eye and glasses. She wasn't happy but entertaining for the rest of us.

What a great little sushi place, and in St. George to boot! Skeptical at first but famished, my husband and I headed in and sat at the sushi bar. We were promptly greeted by a kind staff member who took our drink order. After choosing a plethora of rolls and sashimi (the special Kyoto roll was ahhh-mazing), we had time to enjoy and take in the place. Very clean and well decorated, it seemed like a new restaurant. The food came fairly quick, had loads of fresh fish (not all rice filling), and they even carry Tamari Soy Sauce (I have a gluten allergy). Our waiter was very attentive filling drinks and removing empty dishes, if we lived here it would be our new go-to sushi bar.

The sushi here seems much better and cleaner than at Samurai 21 or Benja's. Me and my wife are regulars and the staff always remember us and come to our table to say hi even if they aren't our server. The quality of the hot food is very consistent and very good. They seem to have both Coke and Pepsi to drink which is awesome because I love Coke but I know some people love Pepsi. The ginger salad dressing is delicious, even better than that at Benihana. If you go at lunch you can get a Bento Box or Hibachi meal in the dining room for less than $10. The Bentos come with a Cali Roll, Pot Stickers, veggies, soup, salad, rice, and entree! What a deal! The average price of a sushi roll is $11 for the large rolls. Very good restaurant.

I tried this restaurant on my way home from Zion National Park. I ordered the regular sashimi dinner which came with 7 pieces of fish (3 salmon, 2 yellowtail, 2 tuna) and your choice of either tuna or California roll, along with miso soup and salad. The salad came with the usual miso-based dressing which I found quite tasty. As other reviewers have mentioned, the miso soup was somewhat bland, but it wasn't bad. The pieces of sashimi were surprisingly large and quite fresh. I had no complaints with the California roll either. Although the decor of this restaurant had a Chinese slant and I didn't see any Japanese working there, the food was typical of other decent Japanese restaurants I've eaten at and I wouldn't mind eating there again.

We visited Sakura on a hot summer day because my mom and step-dad love eating here. We had 4 people in our party and we sat at the sushi bar. Wait staff were more than attentive and were making sure we had everything we need every 4-5 minutes. The owner, Jonny, was our sushi chef and was very friendly and funny as my parents were basically regulars. For appetizers, my wife had the seaweed salad which was very good and I had the crab & cream cheese rolls. Hands down, the cheese rolls were the best I've ever had, a must try when visiting (if you like fried anything and aren't lactose intolerant.) The teriyaki noodles my mom ordered were excellent if you want a lighter app. The sushi rolls we ordered were, the Fisher roll, the Virgin River roll and the Mexican roll. All three were presented on one plate which made me think we ordered too much for just 2 people. The Fisher roll contained crab, cream cheese, topped with salmon and avocado. It was topped with eel sauce. I would give it a 7 out of 10 as it was kind of plain and didn't excite me. The Virgin River roll was shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado & tuna topped with fish eggs and spicy mayo. I really liked this roll and will order it again on my next visit, 9 out of 10. My wife loves spicy and the Mexican roll did not disappoint her. She says it was one of the best rolls she has ever had, 10 out of 10. The ambiance of Sakura is very authentic and the inside was decorated very nicely. I walked through the Hibachi side and I would consider trying that out as well. The entire establishment is clean and fresh with very comfortable seating. Since my parents are such fans, I'm sure we will be back on our next visit to Utah. I would recommend Sakura to my friends who are looking for a little Southern California in Southern Utah.

Best food in St. George! Everyone in my group has had Japanese more than a few times and we were all very impressed. My friend Jared believes that it is the best sushi in Utah and he eats here almost every time he comes to town. I have no idea what all I tried but everything was fantastic.

Good experience here. The hibachi show was nothing over the top, perfect for our family. The price was very good. The food wasn't too greasy. The sushi roll seemed to be a good price but was 1/2 the size I expected, the white tuna was good and overall the roll was fine. The service was very good with one exception. I ordered a side of plain (plain! I emphasized, no sauce) noodles for a picky child and they came out with teriyaki sauce. Before the plate was set down I asked for plain noodles and the server brought out a replacement but then charged us twice for the noodle side although she never even set down the first noodles that we didn't actually order with the sauce. This is a good option for dinner in St. George. We did not wait for a table although we did wait a bit for our server to come to our hibachi table. Our table of 6 was seated by ourselves so maybe they waited for a bit to see if others would be added to our table.

Sakura is very clean and moderately spacious. Service is very friendly and fast. The sushi taste very fresh for the location its at. The menu is very affordable and offers good portion sizes. There are many choices to select from with very varying flavors and tastes. The Tempanyaki (Hibachi) table is typical for places like this. A few jokes, an Onion Volcano here and there, knife and spatula juggling, and a few shrimp catapults!!!

So my rating is really more of a 3.5 but I'm adding that half a star for the prices. First, the prices for a place similar to this are usually around 15 a person for chicken dishes and close or above 20 for steak. We did the hibachi grill this trip. I got the steak and salmon combo for 15.50. They were busy and understaffed but got us seated within ten minutes. I wish they had been staffed better as our "show" was hurried and underwhelming. Only two small fire tricks. Not much showmanship. Which is usually what I expect with hibachi. My son was REALLY looking forward to the fire and didn'hit get much satisfaction. Anyway. The food was cooked.well, I liked everything. Their teryaki noodles are pretty tasty. My salmon wasnt dry, my steak was cooked perfectly, the veggies were crisp yet tender. Though the presentation was hurried, the food was good. Large portions. I wish we had tried a bigger array of foods though.

I'm a NY/NJ native living here in St. George for several months for a job, and I am so happy I found Sakura! I have been eating sushi since 1982 (when it was still considered extremely "exotic"), and I think the sushi here is very good (best in town, for sure). The hibachi is extremely tasty and very reasonably priced. I have been out to dinner here 4 times already, and I haven't been disappointed yet. As another reviewer pointed out, it may not be truly "authentic" Japanese, but it is a delicious meal, nonetheless. Highly recommended.

This review takes a bit of nuance. Here's the thing: if you are a true aficionado of sushi, native Japanese, or very experienced you will be hugely disappointed here although you will find the place amusing for the wrong reasons. But the fact is, most folks and certainly most folks in the desert states do not really want authentic Japanese sushi restaurants. They want the Americanized version. They want rolls, not nigiri or chirashi; they want teriyaki and thai flavors and beef dishes - familiar stuff. The owner of this restaurant is a Chinese guy who used to work at the other Japanese restaurant in town and his wife. Nice folks, anxious to please. They produce a reasonable product that is Japanese-style and in some cases pretty tasty fare. But the hard truth is that Sakura is not really an authentic Japanese dining experience. That all sounds so stuck up but I don't mean it that way. I'm simply trying to distinguish for the Yelp reader as to what to expect. For most folks the dining experience will be pleasant and "ethnic" enough to satisfy. Some say this is the best sushi in St. George. Maybe so but admit that's a pretty low bar. If you are really looking for sushi made by Japanese from Japan who were properly trained over years and really know their way around fish then you'll want to go to Vegas.

I lived in Hawaii five years and their Ahi is truly awesome. They don't use mayonaise and other filler products, they don't fluff their sushi up with tons of rice, its genuinely good. The staff is super sweet all of em!

Besides sushi and steak, this place also has some entrees that have Thai influences.. The best one was the duck curry (my wife had this). Since I'm a sucker for grouper, I opted for the fish. Of the two meals, the duck curry was far and above the best selection. The curry was mellow and the duck was all boneless breast. The grouper was pretty good. But, it was smothered in panko. Since my wife actually likes panko, we split plates. Dinner for two was $58. It included miso soup and a salad. We also had desert. So, it was a pretty good value. And, they gave us probably four times the amount of duck and twice the grouper that we'd get in California for the same price.

Great service, and a great feel. I've been to a lot of Sushi places in and out of St George and this is by far one of the better ones. Johnny does know what he's doing and showed off his talent with Yellow Tail (Raw/Sashimi) dish, which I highly recommend. He also personally came to chat with us to get our feedback on our meal-- was open to suggestions and very knowledgeable. No need to bash on a restaurant like these other reviews. It's a great feel and great food, what more do you need? A lot of this drama just seems to be bad blood between more competition. Ignore it and go to Sakura!

I should say right off that bat that my rating is for the SUSHI only, I've never eaten off the regular menu (with the exception of the onion soup, which is well worth the $1.50). This is definitely the best sushi I've had in St. George. I absolutely recommend the Tokyo roll. The spicy mayo has a little bit of a kick to it, and I love that there's a variety of fish on the roll. I believe it is $12.95 for a nice sized roll. Other good rolls are the Mars, Stott, and Spider. Try it out!
